This Democratic slugfest pits five-term incumbent
Suzanne Gunzburger against former state legislator Steven
Geller. Mr. Geller, 61, accused Ms. Gunzburger of steering
county business to her late husband's plastic lumber
firm a decade ago. The Broward Sheriff's Office recently
opened, then quickly closed, an investigation. BSO's
timing smacks of political opportunism.
Our choice is Ms. Gunzburger, 71.
This will likely be her valedictory term, capping a
long record of service in this Southeast Broward district.
Ms. Gunzburger wisely wants to enshrine the
proposed ethics code in the county charter. She is a
reliable vote for environmental protection and improving
children's services and transportation. She authored
making county buildings eco-friendly and the use of
hybrid buses.
